We’ve been writing and managing this LBI vacation blog for many years now. It has been some time since we got really basic and introduced our beautiful town to people who have never visited us or who are just getting to know us.
This is the first, in a series of articles designed to introduce you to Long Beach Island, (LBI) New Jersey.

Where is Long Beach Island, NJ?
Long Beach Island ( usually called LBI by locals ) is a barrier island and well-known summer vacation spot along the Atlantic coast of Ocean County, New Jersey.
LBI enjoys a strategic position for both New Yorkers and residents of the Philadelphia region.
Many people from New York consider Long Beach Island the perfect distance for their summer vacation. It is generally 2 hours (or less) from the city and is an easy straight-shot down the Garden State Parkway.
For Philadelphia area families, LBI is generally an hour and a half away and is an easy drive.
Why Is LBI Such a Popular Summer Destination?
New Jersey boasts an abundance of great summer destinations, but none are quite like LBI. The unique “vibe” of LBI is considered by many to be the perfect combination of New Jersey shore fun and excitement together with a laid back relaxing feel.
Excitement and relaxing?
Yep. LBI pulls it off. One minute you can be riding exciting rides in a carnival atmosphere the next you can be walking a beautiful quiet beach or browsing windows in a quaint shopping district.
No matter what you want out of your summer vacation destination, LBI has a great solution for just about everyone.
Where to Stay in LBI
If you are new to LBI, my recommendation is that you stay at a hotel that is on the beach. There are a few of them in town. It makes a difference! Waking up in the morning to the roar of the ocean and the cool ocean breezes is one of life’s great pleasures.
Later in the day, you and your family may spend some time on the beach. It is a real pleasure to be able to simply walk right to your room from your beach chair!

With Covid, everything is a little different. We all know it. That being said, most businesses in LBI have done a very good job balancing safety with the needs (and wants) of their guests.
Under normal circumstances, there are many things to do in LBI. Myt strong recommendation is to call ahead and verify any information you see online (even from our website). Things can change and we don’t always know about it.
